One of the bands that started the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM), influencing bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden; is coming to Saskatoon! Heavy metal heroes DIAMOND HEAD are set to take the stage at the Capitol Music Club on August 27th, 2017. Joining them is none other than local legends NEW JACOBIN CLUB; Saskatoon's beloved, and only heavy music/performance-art hybrid.
It’s a surprise, but early metal pioneers DIAMOND HEAD have never played a stage in Saskatchewan. In fact, they have only played 6 Canadian dates since their reformation in 2003 – all in Ontario and Quebec. DIAMOND HEAD is currently on a North American tour in support of their triumphant self-titled 7th studio album, which was released on April 22nd, 2016; and has been very well received by fans worldwide. Fans should heed this as a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the bands that started a music revolution that would launch others in their genre, such as Metallica, to super-stardom; Metallica's cover of the 1980 DIAMOND HEAD hit “Am I Evil?” became increasingly popular after they released it in 1984 as a B-side – and again in 1998 for their cover album, 'Garage Inc.'
DIAMOND HEAD now records and tours with their 3rd vocalist, Rasmus Bom Andersen; after the departure of Nick Tart in 2014. Tart had been with the band since they experienced creative differences with original vocalist Sean Harris in 2003, and left on good terms – their issues stem from Tart’s move to Australia. Since his induction, Andersen has toured extensively with DIAMOND HEAD, and celebrated the recording and release of their 2016 self-titled album. Fans of the band’s earlier sound will be pleased to hear Andersen bring a sound that is epitomic of a renewal of their roots, the album being quoted as “their best work since ‘Lightning to the Nations’”, the album that launched their career in the UK. In addition to its good reception amongst fans, DIAMOND HEAD (2016) beat out bands like Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch, and In Flames as the most added record – being added to 44 station libraries (Including here at Pure Rock Radio); and debuted at #5 on CMJ Loud in it’s second week.
NEW JACOBIN CLUB has been wowing crowds in Western Canada for over 15 years now. Combining their Gothic/Punk/Metal music with everything from freak-show stunts, to intense pyrotechnic tricks; they are an act that guarantees to impress. After a few releases with US indie label Transparent Records, they have turned their attention to the distribution of their very own independent label Manticore Records! With years of providing people with quality fusion entertainment, NEW JACOBIN CLUB is becoming one of Saskatoon's most well known music exports. Rue Morgue magazine has referred to them as: “A bevvy of fiendish visuals and a sound that brings together a cauldron of classic goth, 70’s rock and power metal.”
The show will be opened up by prominent Saskatoon thrash band AGONY SPAWN, who have made plenty of waves with fans in recent years via frequent gigging. Promoters Faceless Productions have been promoting various metal shows in the Saskatchewan area for a couple years, trying to bring recognition to local performers in the metal genre, without imposing on credit and earnings that belong to the musicians.
